For years and centuries before, pink and purple have always been girl colors while blue and green have been boy colors. Even today, unconsciously, people of all sorts associate and differentiate gender based on color. We’re in, for lack of a better term, a ‘woke generation,’ full of individuals defying all sorts of roles and being proud of who they are. Yet, why in the world do we still give mere pigments on a piece of clothing or on a paper power over us?
Let me backup a second, for the most part, girl’s aren’t shamed for what colors they tend to wear. They often get shamed for a revealing outfit but that’s a different subject. If you observe around you throughout the day, girls wear all sorts of styles and colors, some with the pinks and purples but nowadays females gravitate more towards untraditional choices such as blacks, reds, greens, blues; you name it. Which shows often overlooked progression and success in forward moving ideas regarding traditional woman clothing. However, on the other hand, men are often shamed for their clothing choices if they so happen to wear a pink or a purple, or any feminine clothing for that matter. Rarely do you find a male proudly strutting a vibrant shade of magenta for such a thing would be looked at as weird. If one did such, society would categorize the boy as part of the lgbtq+ community without even a single word exchanged. Why in a community when one just does as they please, do we categorize and sort individuals based on their outward appearance?
It is ridiculous that a boy minding their own business, or anyone for that matter, gets instantly judged and stereotyped for just the fabric hanging on their body. People should be allowed to sport whatever look they please without being judged and shunned. Though it is natural for humans to make judgements, that doesn’t mean we should do such things based on colors with assigned gender specific trends. All in all, people should be able to wear whatever they want and everyone should be kind to all, no matter the clothes or colors they sport.
