I don’t have TikTok. I know, a teenager without TikTok, it’s shocking. I haven’t the faintest clue why teenagers like TikTok. As a teenager. You would think that I would have a phone as well right? Well, you would be wrong. I am a teenager with no phone, So I’m the perfect candidate for this article! Anyways, back to the topic, TikTok.
Teenagers spend hours on this app instead of spending their time on something more productive. They watch people take school property like soap dispensers and bathroom mirrors and find it funny! TikTok has made such a huge impact on teenagers, but not in a good way. According to CNN Health, teenagers spend an average of over seven hours per day on screen media for entertainment. This is an alarming amount of time to be spending on your phone. According to Tubefilter, teenagers spend 16 hours every month on Tik Tok. Sixteen hours every month spent on this ridiculous entertainment platform. The numbers of teenagers watching online videos jumped from 34% of teens to 69% of teens.
This has negatively affected teens since most of their watch time is spent at night when they are supposed to be sleeping. Social media and video games have also affected teenagers financially. According to TechStory teenage boys spent about 10.4 million dollars a year on Fortnite alone. TechStory states, “Teenagers who engage in pathological video games are at higher risk of substance abuse disorders, while teen video game addiction leaves the brain vulnerable to other types of addiction.” Social media, video games, & Tik Tok can affect teenagers in every aspect of their lives. It affects their sleep schedule, their mental health, and physical health. TechStory says, “Boys spend 8 minutes less than girls on sports and active leisure activities per hour they play video games, while boys play one video game every hour.” This is a problem that needs to be acknowledged since it is negatively affecting teenagers so much. So if you have Tik Tok or any social media platform, I don’t expect you to get rid of it, though that could improve your quality of life, you should to lessen the time you spend on any social media platform. Doing that can greatly impact your life in the best way possible.
