Why Should you let your intrusive thoughts win
Kaylee Nguyen
Intrusive thoughts: what are they? Are they just unwanted and distressing thoughts that pop into a person's mind without their control? To figure out what are intrusive thoughts, let's go through the actual definition of what is an Intrusive thought. According to IesoHealth.com, “Intrusive thoughts are unwanted thoughts that can pop into our heads without warning, at any time. They're often repetitive – with the same kind of thought cropping up again and again – and they can be disturbing or even distressing.” However, should you let your intrusive thoughts win, and when would be the best time to take action on your thoughts. I used the prime example of a crying child. I asked Kayla Nguyen, A psychopath on this topic and what her intrusive thoughts say to her at that time period. She responded with “Sometimes when I see a Crying child, I wonder what I should start screaming at the child, or just drop kick it for no reason. In the end you should just let your intrusive thoughts win and dispose of the child immediately.” You shouldn’t let your intrusive thoughts get in the way of you achieving new possibilities. |

There is never a chance that you shouldn’t let your intrusive thoughts win. But at the same time you shouldn’t let it win??? Tressia Lyman, a more slightly sane person gave me a different response to drop kicking children, “No I would never think of drop kicking a child, cause drop kicking children is morally wrong.” After that she gave me no response for the rest of the day. Questioning my morality of: should I have asked that question or should I have not let my intrusive thoughts win on that question? However I got a true question. In the end, why shouldn’t you let your intrusive thoughts win (as long as they're good intentions.) Sometimes you just need to let it go and experience the wonders of the thought. Who knows, maybe it might turn out better then you might expect it to be. As small things like this are just thoughts after all. What the worst could happen.

WHAT Constitutes a SANDWICH?
Melody Hanks
Since the dawn of man we have asked one question “what can be a sandwich? What is a sandwich?” I am here to tell you today. The great sandwich war of 1899 led many to be close minded on what is a sandwich, saying it is only two slices of bread and something in between. With this black and white thinking other options were left out of the sandwich party. I believe there is much more to a sandwich than just “two slices of bread with something in between.” “ Merriam-Webster defines a “sandwich” to be “two or more slices of bread or a split roll having a filling in between” or “one slice of bread covered with food.”” With that definition in mind then you can say that a hotdog is a split roll with a sausage in-between therefore making it a sandwich. That also begs another question “What is bread?” From Google definition it says bread is “food made of flour, water, and yeast or another leavening agent, mixed together and baked.” This means that bread can be tortillas, pasty, and any other dough that falls into that category.
From the definition of Merriam Webster saying a sandwich is “one slice of bread covered with food” and google definition saying bread is a “food made of flour water and yeast” meaning the options for sandwiches are limitless. Pizza is a sandwich, burritos are sandwiches, a quesadilla is a sandwich, and wraps are sandwiches. This opens the gate for so many foods to be praised for being sandwiches Though beauty is in the eye of the beholder so what do you think can be considered a sandwich? Published 5/9/23 |

Outer banks overrated
HOT OPINION FROM Emily Munoz Rodriguez
Netflix’s Outer Banks has been a popular show since it came out in April 2020, but despite its mass appeal, the show is overrated and lacks diversity. The series follows a group of teens from the Outer Banks of North Carolina as they search for treasure, while also dealing with their personal drama and relationships. Although the show has received praise for its entertaining plot and hot cast, it falls short in many ways and fails to live up to the hype. Firstly, the show's plot is basic and lacks originality. Outer Banks follows a familiar format of a group of teenagers trying to solve a mystery while dealing with personal issues. The show does not break any new ground and offers nothing that hasn't been done before in shows like The O.C., Riverdale, or even Stranger Things. It also romanticizes the ideas of poverty and financial struggle. Especially in a high income area such as Draper, kids that live in this area begin to think that poverty is full of adventure when in reality it is full of struggle and stress. The story's twists and turns are predictable, and the characters lack depth, making it difficult for us to become invested in their journeys. Also the acting in Outer Banks is underwhelming, with many of the young actors struggling to deliver convincing scenes and real emotion or reactions. The actors' lack of experience is evident, and their performances often feel forced and exaggerated. The show's characters are also poorly developed, with most of them lacking in complexity. The struggles they face are not relatable and the script is way over the top in certain situations. This lack of character development makes it difficult for viewers to empathize with the characters' struggles, making it difficult to become emotionally invested in their stories. |
|
Additionally, the show's portrayal of the Outer Banks is unrealistic and borders on stereotypical. The series paints the Outer Banks as a wealthy playground for the rich and famous, with little regard for the area's actual history and culture. The show's lack of authenticity regarding the location it's set in, detracts from the experience of the viewers, who will feel more compelled by a setting that is better represented. Finally, the show's over-reliance on plot twists and cliffhangers becomes tedious, making it difficult for viewers to remain engaged. The show's twists and turns feel contrived, and the constant cliffhangers leave viewers feeling cheated. Outer Banks lacks substance, and the constant shock value tactics can't make up for the show's lack of originality. In conclusion, Outer Banks is an overrated show that fails to live up to the hype.

Mr.Charlies CHicken VS Raising canes
Jett Whittaker
Mr. Charlie's Chicken and Raising Cane's are two well known fried chicken restaurants known for their delicious chicken, but there are definitely some differences between the two that students at corner canyon point out.. Mr. Charlie's Chicken is a Utah-based chain that started in 1962. They were originally founded in Auburn, AL but they moved over to Utah in 2014. They are known for their crispy fried chicken fingers, their assortment of sauces, and their variety of waffles and sandwiches. Their menu is simple, but everything is made fresh to order. Raising Cane's, on the other hand, is a newer chain that was founded in Baton Rouge, Louisiana in 1996. They are known for their "One Love" philosophy, which means they focus on doing one thing - chicken fingers - and doing it really well. Their chicken fingers are made with fresh, never frozen chicken and are always cooked to order. Unlike Charlie’s though, they have only one, sometimes two sauce flavors. The sauce they serve there is Cane’s sauce, a fry sauce- like condiment that the consumers have mixed feelings about. |
|
While both restaurants serve delicious chicken, there are some notable differences between the two. Mr. Charlie's Chicken has a more classic, home-style feel to it, with its traditional sides and no-frills menu. Raising Cane's, on the other hand, has a more modern, trendy vibe, with its focus on doing one thing and doing it really well. Charlie’s also has much more variety to its menu, with more chicken styles like sandwiches and grilling it, and they also have more to go along with it. They have 11 different sauces, which doesn't even include their seasonal sauces! Going back to Cane's, some regular customers there have their own thoughts on why it's better. Asher Candell, a junior at Corner Canyon, claims “While charlies has much more variety, Cane’s texas toast solos it.” Canes also specialize in their Texas toast, adding a large variety of herbs, spices, and butter to it to make it the perfect texture and perfect taste.
Overall, both Mr. Charlie's Chicken and Raising Cane's are great options for anyone looking for delicious chicken. It just depends on what kind of experience you're looking for - classic and home-style, or modern and trendy. If you are looking for something you can go everyday and get something new, then I recommend Mr. Charlie's Chicken, but if you are looking for the reliable choice, something that you know you love and could eat it often, then Cane’s is the pick for you.
