Double Dates or One-on-ONe Dates? By Whitney Riddle
Pro/Con Editor Sports Editor Going on a date in high school is a hit or miss, it's either the best night of the week or single-handedly the most awkward encounter you endure. I think going on dates throughout high school is important, not necessarily dating one specific person, but going out with different people. Dating throughout High School is a good way to figure out what kind of people you click with the most, the learning curves of dating are essential. The most common dates in High School are probably double or group dates, but oftentimes people go on individual dates as well. So which is the better option when asking a new person out on a date? Lets evaluate; Going on double or group dates has a variety of benefits and disadvantages. According to Gentleman Journal, the pros of double dates include; reduced awkwardness, more options, and more fun sometimes. With the group setting, it's easier to create conversation. If you aren’t close with someone, a double date is a good way to get to know them and avoid awkward silence. The Con of double dates is sometimes the other couple themselves. If you end up going with a couple that doesn’t pair well with you and your date, it can make things awkward. My advice is, if the double date is a first date, don’t go with people who are a couple. Single dates can sometimes be the move. The pros of one-on-one dates include; more time to truly get to know each other, you don’t have to coordinate with multiple people, and it feels more like a date. Sometimes when you go on a single date, it feels more personal and you are able to actually connect with the person. The cons of a one-on-one date is it could be awkward. If you don’t know the person that well then there could be some uncomfortable moments. I asked Chloe Evans, a CCHS senior whether she prefers double or single dates best, and she said, “It depends on the person, if it's more of a hangout bring a group, but if it's more of a date then go one on one.” Of course, it's going to depend on the situation and the person which option you decide, do what works best for you and would make the best date! Pros/Cons Of Movie Theaters
|
By Asher Candell
Staff Writer Remember that time during the 2020 lockdown craziness when everybody was talking about how movie theaters would go out of business? That conversation seems to be all but dead nowadays, but I remember that some people at that time were excited that theaters were dying, so they could watch new films in the comfort of their own homes. I thought that was an insane take, but the more I think about it, the more there seems to be many pros and cons to movie theaters, so let’s get into it, starting with the pros. Firstly, movie theaters make movies feel much more like an event and less like something to do when you’re bored. When you’re at home and feel like watching a movie, you simply turn it on. Going to a theater feels a lot more grand and fun. I’m of the opinion that your theater experience can either make or break your enjoyment of any given film you’re seeing. No one would like the movies they see in the theater half as much if you weren’t surrounded by a crowd in a dark theater watching the film on a huge projector screen. Next, going to a theater is a great activity to do with your family or friends, and it’s an age-old first date idea, which makes sense. Movies provide something to easily talk about, which is always nice for dates, and seeing the big movie with that big actor from that big studio has never not been a good time with friends, or even just by yourself. |
And lastly, of course, you get the snacks. By some freak of science and nature, movie theater popcorn can simply not be replicated at home. Believe me, I’ve tried, because that stuff is delicious and puts you right into the movie-watching mood.
Plus, having theaters also makes the movies more money, seeing as every individual who sees them in theaters has to buy their own ticket, whereas if you could watch new movies at home, you’d only have to purchase it once. Theaters provide studios with enough money to make more movies and pay the hard-working people who put their effort and time into making them.
Now for the cons, which I’ll admit, the more I thought about the cons, the more they convinced me that perhaps movie theaters aren’t my favorite thing personally. First, there’s the fact that turning on a movie at home is infinitely simpler than buying tickets for a certain time and a certain date for a certain movie. At home, you have the choice to pick any movie you want, plus you can watch it whenever you want, which is incredibly convenient for people who don’t have a lot of planned downtime.
Not only that, but if theaters didn’t exist, you could enjoy brand-new movies in the comfort of your own home, watching them in your room, on your phone, or with whoever you want. Imagine how easy it would be to say “Hey, everyone come to my house, we’re buying the new Marvel movie.” Then you sit down, by yourself, or with whoever you want to watch it with, and have a simple, comfortable experience watching a great movie. You wouldn’t even have to leave your home.
So in conclusion, there are many reasons to prefer movie theaters over seeing new movies at home, even though I tend to skew to the latter opinion. That said, I’m always content to go to a theater with my friends to watch something new, and as of right now, it doesn’t seem like theaters are going anywhere anytime soon.
